Rice water contains vitamins, minerals and amino acids which are essential for beautiful skin, including ferulic acid, which is a great antioxidant, and allantoin, known for it’s anti-inflammatory properties.
Mostly used by Japanese women in their beauty routine and specially in their daily diet, and OOH! you have seen the GLOW in those lovely ladies faces right?
Well in turns out not only Japanese gals are into the rice thing, but south american beauties have been treating their skin and hair with this cheap and yum ingredient for ages already. Let me tell you, my dear mother ( and super beautiful of course ) is a south american native straight from the amazon forest, she’s not young but she’s not old and she looks at least 20 years younger than the real number of years that she’s been in this planet. Her skin is so soft! and who said something about wrinkles?? Absolutely, she’s got some (my mamma its not 15) but she surely should have tons more, her tone and even skin are incredible! Even thou I have noticed 4 little dark spots since not long ago (I guess she will have to age at some point, no?) I think she should have loads more, but anyway lets get to the point… Besides her daily ginger munching since 4ever, I’ve seen her doing the Rice Thing about twice a week since a have a memory. Yes! it does work and has pretty amazing benefits for your hair too ( I will post some of that soon). I haven’t been very good at following my mothers beauty routine with rice but there are some months that I just do it, and my complexion, my glowing, my tone, literally everything that my face is about becomes perfect.. A very simple recipe in the vegetarian or vegan versions have marvellous benefits for your skin. When you have some hormone acne or just suffer from adult acne (like me) rice water, the rice it self, some honey and milk (for the vegan version just cut the honey and milk and the results will be fabulous as well) will do some great magic.
There are many ways to use rice water, first I will tell you how do I (& my mother) use it, and then some other ways that are super great as well.
So here it is:
1/2 Cup of white rice (basmati is good too)
2 Cups of water
1 tbsp of organic honey
1 tbsp of whole milk
first rinse the rice with about a cup of water to remove any dirt or impurities don’t let it soak just rinse it.
Put the the water into a pot add the rice and cook in low heat until rice has soften (do NOT let the water evaporate you need it!).
Once the rice is cooked drain the water to a small bowl and keep the rice aside.
Add the honey and milk to the rice and 2 tbsp of the water to the mix.
Mix well until a you get a sticky wet texture ( just a couple of spoon turns will do it)
Take a cotton pad and soak it in the mix
Apply to your face eyes included and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
I put some rice to my face as well. It can get a little messy so I laid down on the couch over a large towel and one little one over my neck and chest and watch a couple of episodes of my fav tv series.
You can keep applying the mix if you like while you are watching tv, once you are done rinse with mild water to get rid of the sticky part, rinse with the rice water and pat dry, as a last step I like to apply a bit more rice water to my face with a cotton pad and let it dry.
That’s it you are done! Do this 2 or 3 times x week and I assure you will see the benefits in less than 10 days. You can keep doing this forever or once or twice a week if you like.
If you use the Rice water as a regular face wash not only when you do the mask you will get that serious GLOW on your face. It will gradually improve your skin tone. Damp the cotton in rice water and apply on your face. Let it air dry.
Rice mask specially with honey (or just the water) also helps heal acne and cools the redness of an outbreak.
PORE SIZE REDUCTION
Damp a cotton pad into the rice water and apply it on your skin. The rice water acts as an astringent on the skin, tightening the pores.
It will help your skin recover fast and prevent further damage. You can apply it to your face with cotton ball or pad or just wet your sunburn areas with rice water. Do not rinse. You can add some rice water to your bathtub and relax for a bit. It will be soothing. Just remember to chill the water in the fridge it will be better.
Apply rice water on rashes or other skin inflammation to soothe it naturally. If its a certain zone aply the water with cotton pad or take a bath.
